With the help of Scottish Immigrants, George Washington began distilling whiskey at Mt. Vernon in 1797 and within two years, his five stills produced nearly 11,000 gallons, making our first president the largest whiskey distiller in America.
Other Scottish Distillers eventually settled in the frontier state of Kentucky where they stored their corn spirits in charred oak barrels that improved the harsh liquor with notes of caramel and vanilla. That amber whiskey became known as bourbon. We've enhanced this black tea with those same distinctive notes of caramel and vanilla.
