Initially a simple mark to distinguish cargo at busy docks or trading floors, this symbol evolved by the 1700s into a heart shaped figure (denoting ‘good luck’) surmounted by a figure four (symbolizing Agnus Dei – ‘Lamb of God’] and containing the initials of the company the symbol was an easily identifiable mark of The East India Company ownership. This very same mark was stamped boldly on the 340 crates of tea thrown into the harbor on the night of December 16th, 1773.

This lapel pin features that very same symbol and makes a fine gift for history fanatic
